The Masada Psalms Scroll
was one of 14 manuscripts
discovered at the fortress
built by Herod near the Dead
Sea. The date of the scroll can
accurately be fixed as no later
than 72 C.E. The manuscript
contains chapters 82-85 of the
Book of Psalms. Except for
one variation, these Psalms
are identical with the
Massoretic (traditional)
Hebrew text.
According to the curator,
the most important objects
are the Dead Sea Scrolls. In-
surance premiums were
highest for the two scrolls in
the exhibit.
The Royal Ontario Museum
has scheduled many pro-
grams to enhance the
viewer's understanding of
this exhibit. There is also a
catalogue, prepared by the
curators of the Israel
Museum, which contains col-
or illustrations, and valuable
background information on
the exhibit.
Museum hours are: 10 a.m.-
5:45 p.m. daily; 10 a.m.-7:45
p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
The exhibit ends Sept. 5. ❑
