Sisterhoods Hold
Braille Classes

Adat Shalom 'Synagogue
will hold combined sisterhood
Braille classes. at the
synagogue this year on
Wednesday mornings begin-
ning Sept. 28.
The purpose of the classes is
to teach Braille transcription.
Adat Shalom Sisterhood
Braille Chairman Sheri
Biederman is the instructor
for the program. Classes will
meet for about 1-11/2 hours
weekly until May. Par-

ticipants will do at-home ex-
ercises and will finish the
course by transcribing 35
pages of a novel into Braille.
The book will then be submit-
ted to the Library of Congress
for scoring and those who
pass will be certified in
literary Braille transcription.
The project is a combined
sisterhood program open to
any interested sisterhood
member of Adat Shalom,
Beth Shalom, Shaarey Zedek,
Beth Achim, Temple Emanu-
El, Thmple Beth El or Thmple
Israel.
Each sisterhood provides
Braille typewriters, paper
and an instruction manual.
Each individual sisterhood
charges a minimum supply
fee. For information, call the

Women Plan
Barbecue

Centennial Chapter, B'nai
B'rith Women, will hold its
annual barbecue on July 19
at 7 p.m. at the home of Bar-
bara Gutenberg, 2778 Cour-
ville Rd., Bloomfield Hills. In
keeping with theme for the
evening, "Investing Can Be a
Picnic," event chairman
Elaine Cohen invites guests
to hear speaker Mel
Stumacher of Prudential
Bache Securities. There is a
charge for dinner and the
deadline for reservations is
July 15.
