Refuseniks May Receive Visas New York (JTA) — Western diplomats have been in- formed by the Soviet govern- ment that two well known, ailing refuseniks will be allowed to emigrated. However, the refuseniks themselves, Benjamin Char- ny and Yuri Zieman, both of Moscow, reported that they have not heard of any permis- sion being granted. The Zieman family made headlines during the super- power summit in Moscow, when President Reagan planned, then canceled, a per- sonal visit to their home. The Soviet Foreign Min- istry in Moscow informed the embassies of the United States, Sweden and Canada that Charny and Zieman would be allowed to leave. Ambassadors of all three na- tions telephoned the two men to notify them of the news. "Ire You lure Vnlaa ichivertzewager 1 Reglaw This Ave Israel Names Envoy To Egypt Jerusalem (JTA) — Prof. Shimon Shamir, an expert on Arab affairs, will be Israel's next ambassador to Egypt, according to an announce- ment last week by the Foreign Ministry. Cairo has already agreed to the appointment. Shamir will take his post at the end of this summer, replacing Moshe Sasson, who has been am- bassador to Egypt since 1981. Shamir is well versed in Egyptian affairs. He was the first head of the Israeli Academic Center in Egypt, which was set up when the two countries signed their peace treaty in 1979. Israel Schools To Teach Arabic Jerusalem (JTA) — Educa- tion Minister Yitzhak Navon told the Knesset last week that Arabic language studies will be compulsory in all Israeli high schools within six years. The only compulsory foreign language in the high school curriculum now is English. Arabic is offered in many schools as an optional foreign language, on the same level as French or German.
