HERFF, 88, former Detroiter
of Memphis, Tenn., died July
5. She leaves a daughter, Mrs.
William (Phyllis) Fenton of
Memphis; two sisters, Mrs.
Arlene Korn of Philadelphia,
Pa., and Mrs. Richard
(Rosalind) Orloff of Atlanta,
Ga.; three grandchildren and
six great-grandchildren. In-

NATALIE RISKIN, 67,
former Flint resident of Lake
Worth, Fla., died June 30.
She leaves her husband,
Sidney; two daughters, Mrs.
David (Marleen) Helfman of
Oak Park and Mrs. Harvey
(Elayne) Urnovitz of South-
field; a brother, Irving Siders
of New York; and four grand-
children. Interment Detroit.

HARRY ROSE, 81, died
June 29. He leaves a son,
Leslie of Dallas; a daughter,
Eileen Rosenbaum; a sister,
Ruth Rosenberg; and four
grandchildren.

July 1. Survived by her hus-

Thomas Horwitz, retired
president of Michigan
Fluorescent Light Co. in Pon-
tiac, died July 1.
Born in Rochester, N.Y., Mr.
Horwitz pursued a second
career as a theatrical makeup
artist and lectured to univer-
sity drama departments in
every state. He was active in
civic and religious affairs. He
was on the board of directors
of Temple Beth Jacob in Pon-
tiac and was a past president
of the temple.
He was a member of B'nai
B'rith, an adviser of several
youth groups and a member
of the board of the Pontiac
YMCA. He was an amateur
sculptor and painter and his
bronze sculpture of Job has
been widely exhibited.
He leaves his wife, Selma; a
daughter, Elinor Stecker of
Hartsdale, N.Y.; and two
grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.

Ralph Goldstein

Ralph A. Goldstein, owner
of Ralph Goldstein Building
and Investment Co., died
June 30 at age 53.
Born in Detroit, Mr. Golds-
tein was a former captain of
the University of Detroit
basketball team in 1956. He
was the first guard in the U-
D history to score 1,000. He
coached basketball at St.
Theresa and Divine Child
high schools and Aquinas Col-
lege in Grand Rapids.
Mr. Goldstein was named to
the U-D Hall of Fame.
He leaves his wife,
Maryellen; three daughters,
Barbara, Suzie and Linda; his
mother, Mrs. Syde Goldstein;
a brother, Bernard.

Seymour Gallant

Seymour Gallant, owner of
City Floor Coverings in Fern-
dale, died July 1 at age 68.
Born in Detroit, Mr.
Gallant was a member of
Congregation Beth Achim,
Great Lakes Yacht Club and
Mosaic Lodge of the Masons.
He was a founder of Henry
Morganthau Lodge of B'nai
B'rith.
He leaves his wife, Lillian;
a son, Dr. Bruce; a daughter,
Terri Lieberwitz; a brother,
Norman; and two
grandchildren.
