Her parents met during the 1948 Israeli War of Independence when her American father was in the medical corps and her Israeli mother worked on intelligence. In addition to Martina's love for Israel, she also cultivated a love for music, especially piano. She spent three summers studying piano, ballet and theater at the National Music Camp at Interlochen. After graduating from Southfield High School in 1974, she attended the University of Michigan, majoring in history. She met her husband Carlo at U-M, and they married after she graduated. She then pursued a law degree at Wayne State University. She began her law career as a legal counsel for the Wayne County Circuit Court. At this time, she also was very active in the National Council for Jewish Women, for which she began a program for battered wives called Legal Alternatives for Women. While Martina was working as an attorney and raising her two children, her mother sent her a newsletter from Emory University about children. Her mother suggested she start a similar paper in the Detroit area. Martina loved the idea and for the last two years has published All Kids Considered, reaching 125,000 parents in southeastern Michigan. Martina is busy juggling her work schedule and home life. "I work about 50 hours a week on the paper, and my husband is very supportive:' Her future goals include writing a children's book and completing the Ph.D. degree program in history at Wayne State University. Because she is so busy with the newspaper, she uses her legal background occasionally, freelancing and helping her husband. When she is not busy informing the community about children's programs, she often participates in them with her family. One family activity is attending services at Congregation Beth Shalom. as wonderful to give as they are to receive. . . and gallery LOEHMANN'S OF HUNTERS SQUARE MALL 14 MILE & ORCHARD LK.
