Israel Offers
To Negotiate
Jerusalem (JTA) — Israel
says it is willing to resume
negotiations with Egypt for a
compromise solution to their
border dispute over Taba.
Yosef Ben-Aharon, director
general of the prime
minister's office, said June 16
on Israel radio that Premier
Yitzhak Shamir is prepared
to reopen the talks under the
auspices of the legal adviser
to the U.S. State Department,
Abraham Sofaer.
The Taba dipute was sub-
mitted to an international ar-
bitration panel in March,
after more than a year of
hearings in Geneva. Its ver-
dict, which will be binding
under international law, is ex-
pected in September.

ing the study of Hebrew and
Judaism with direct involve-
ment in student activism; the
International Jewish Student
Encounter ' summer trip
through Israel; activist pro-
grams supporting Soviet and
Ethiopian Jewry: Project
Areivim, which sends young
Jewish men and women, ages
23-25, all over the world for a
year of Jewish community
service; and FAME, a pro-
gram which sends a troupe of
Jewish students with a
background in the perform-
ing arts through Israel for a
year.
Another main goal of
WUJS, according to
Abromowitz, is to inform
Jewish students about the
current issues and get them
to take a stand, to activate
them. Toward this goal,
WUJS prints a newsletter on
Ethiopian and Soviet Jewry
and an international student
magazine called Shofar, and
runs a Jewish student press
service.
All of this programming,
however, is in jeopardy. "The
reality is that the Jewish stu-
dent world is about to col-
lapse," said Abromowitz.
"They're telling us that we
have to close our European
and Latin American offices,
and I haven't paid the
Jerusalem staff in two
months.
"We need a miracle now in
terms of a donor, and I'm now
looking for that person,"
Abromowitz said.
Contributions to WUJS can
be sent to PEF Israel Endow-
ment Funds, 41 E. 42nd St.,
Suite 607, New York City

that the check is for WUJS.
