2975 W. Maple Road, Troy (at Coolidge)

was one protest where stones
were thrown at soldiers, who
had to use force to put down
the disturbance. One guard
was hurt, but no prisoners in-
jured, he said.
The commander denied
that prisoners were made to
sit in the sun for long periods
as claimed by prisoners:
"They are liars. They don't sit
in the sun for even a half-
hour. It only takes 10 to 12
minutes to conduct the twice-
daily roll calls," he insisted.
He also denied that
prisoners suffered health pro-
blems. On one occasion, he
said, 100 prisoners reported
stomach aches and
temperatures, claiming there
was food poisoning.
A team of 15 doctors was
immediately brought in from
neighboring army bases, and
special tents were set up to
examine patients. He said on-
ly three were found to be sick.
"The rest of it was a show,"
the camp commandant said.

Mass gatherings of
prisoners are not allowed,
which has caused some ten-
sions because of prayers.
Restrictions were eased dur-
ing the month of the
Ramadan fat, but have since
been reimposed so that
groups could not form. Groups
of about four people do gather
to watch games of checkers
and backgammon, which
reporters saw underway in
the upper camp.
"We don't interfere with
their prayers, but we don't
allow them to pray en masse,"
Tzemach said.
There have been two or
three incidents where such
gatherings had turned into
protests, with Palestinians
starting to sing nationalist
songs.
The program, Tzemach
said, is that such gatherings
can lead to violence. There
