"whether by accident or

The book is based on brief-
ings by former officers of M16,
Britain's counterintelligence
service. Details of the book
appeared in London news-
papers. According to the book,
Sir Stewart Menzies, wartime
chief of M16, gave the task of
blocking illegal Jewish im-
migration into Palestine to
Count Frederick van den
Heuvel, head of MI6's Rome
station.
Israel Restores
Press Passes
Jerusalem (JTA) — The
press credentials of NBC cor-
respondent Martin Fletcher
were restored last week by
the Government Press Office,
which has suspended them
more than six weeks ago.
Fletcher's credentials and
those of Washington Post cor-
respondent Glenn Frankel
were suspended after both
were accused of failing to
adhere to Israeli censorship
laws.
Both reporters had by-
passed censors and filed
stories saying that Israel's in-
ner cabinet had approved the
assassination of Khalil al-
Wazir, also known as Abu
Jihad, the second in com-
mand of the Palestine Libera-
tion Organization.
Frankel's press card was
returned last month, but the
delay in returning Fletcher's
card, press office director
Yoram Ettinger said, was
because of the "continuing ex-
amination being conducted
by the defense establishment
regarding the failure to obey
Israel's censorship regula-
tions."
Bombs Thrown
In Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv (JTA) — Police
questioned more than 50
Arabs taken into custody in
the vicinity of a Dizengoff
shopping mall in the heart of
Tel Aviv after three Molotov
cocktails were thrown from
the roof. Last Sunday's inci-
dent, which occured after 9
p.m., caused no casualties or
damage.
Police found a fourth un-
lighted gasoline-filled bottle
on the roof of the multi-level
mall.
The attack, the first of its
kind in Tel Aviv, was de-
scribed as one of the most dar-
ing because of its potential to
seriously injure civilians. The
malls and its hundreds of
shops employ Israeli and West
Bank and Gaza Strip Arabs
who do clean-up and
maintenance work.
