kids change clothes at least
three times a day. Don't ask
about the laundry.
"We have an open-house
policy. On weekends I have to
stock up on food because I
never know how many people
will be here. We always have
two or three kids sleep over. It
is not unusual to find bet-
ween 10 and 15 kids here on
the weekend."
It is Bob who does the fami-
ly shopping. When he wants
to escape, he often goes to K-
Mart and wanders the aisles
alone.
Carol believes the boys are
totally different. "It is like
having three different kids
who share the same birth-
day," she explains. "But to a
certain extent, I think of
them as one."
That, according to the boys,
is the worst part of being
triplets. "Everyone thinks
you're one person," says Cary.
"They think we don't have a
mind of our own."
All three insist they do not
think alike. "I think of myself
as myself;' says Mark. "Peo-
ple expect us to look alike, but
we don't."
"Some of our relatives don't
even know who we are:'
laments Cary.
Danny adds, "It can be dif-
ficult in school because the
teachers always compare us."
According to Mark, pro-
blems arise if they have
friends who don't get along.
"A few of our friends are the
same, but mostly we each
have our own set of friends?'
The boys are happy to be
sharing a bar mitzvah. "It's
good because we only have to
do one-third of the haftarah,"
was one of the din of answers.
"And, if we mess up while
singing no one will know;'
says Danny. "Plus, we can in-
vite more people?'
The Heller refrigerator is
covered with invitations to
their friends' bar and bat
mitzvahs. "Sometimes all
three are invited, sometimes
not," Carol says. "It gets very
expensive because each of my
sons gives a gift."
Another challenge is taking
everyone where he wants to
go. "I spend a lot of time in
the car;' Carol says. Rachel
pitches in with the driving.
"She comes in handy;' Mark
explains. "She can drive us if
our parents can't?'
"Sometimes she's nice:'
Cary adds. "She takes us ski-
ing. Last winter she fell and
cut her head open and need-
ed stitches, but she waited for
us so we could finish skiing?'
Many times the boys end up
doing the same activity. In ad-
dition to skiing, they play
basketball and go skating
together. They go to the
movies or bowling alley, and
