can see the long stretches
when they go faster or how

scenes and watch it, like
where you can see the dif-
ferent teams timing their
racers. Or foreign
photographers, foreign people.
Anywhere I can go to make

group of people who have all
gotten together because of
their liking for auto sports
and it's just like one big par-
ty. Everyone's all friends. We
usually make it work. It
usually runs pretty
smoothly."
The DGPA is not only a
year-round social group, but a
year-round working organiza-
tion. "As soon as the race is
over this year, they start on
the next race!'
So when the 26 drivers get
the green light at 1:15 p.m. on
Sunday, remember that their
journey really began last
June, and that DGPA
members such as David Katz-
man had a hand in enabling
the spectacle to take place. ❑

While Katzman enjoys the
race, he says he is not an ex-
pert. "Nothing like that. I
just enjoy watching it. I'm
definitely a people-person. I
enjoy that aspect. I'm making
a lot of connections and
maybe I'll be able to expand
my adventures somehow
through somebody I meet .. .
"I would like to eventually
get into it a little bit more. I
am limited in my volunteer
time because of my regular
job. But I wouldn't mind get-
ting more involved in a super-
visory position somehow."
Katzman says that while
the DGPA has a need for all
of its members, "Every year it
seems that roll call gets
larger and larger. It's really
fur. We have kickoff parties.
We have Tiger parties. We

After posting a 19-2 record
in two seasons of junior var-
sity pitching, North Farm-
ington junior Debbie Wein-
traub earned a spot on the
Raider's varsity this season.
But she did not want to pitch.
A poor start by the Raiders
prompted coach Dave
Brubaker to put Weintraub
back on the mound, where
she had a very respectable 6-6
record for a 7-14 North Farm-
ington team. The young
Raiders were 6-10 in the
Western Lakes Conference.
"If it wasn't for Debbie we
may not have won a game all
season," said Brubaker.
In 64 innings Weintraub
allowed 52 hits, walked 42
and struck out 22. She added
one save and posted a 1.85
ERA.
At the bat Weintraub hit
.307 with one home run and
four RBI. She scored 12 runs
and led the team with four
sacrifice bunts.
A three-letter winner — she
also played for the North Far-
mington basketball and
volleyball varsities — Wein-
traub will play a key role for
next year's Raider squad,
which loses only four seniors
from this year's team. "We're
