Austria's "horrific" Holocaust
legacy, it was still important
that her daughter and the
other young musicians travel
to Vienna. "I'd like them to
go and I'd like the focus of the
experience to be on the music,
on the grand musical
historical tradition." Kluger
pointed out that Leonard
Bernstein, a Jew, is conductor
of the Vienna Philharmonic.
Louis Nagel, a University of
Mighican School of Music
faculty member and pianist,
has also played in Vienna. At
the board meeting he said the
Holocaust should be faced
directly. "I think all of us
want to be sensitive, but none
would stand in the way of a
learning experience," Nagel
explained. "If we are going to
communicate with people,
music is the way."

STAFF REPORT

he Fresh Air Society
will dedicate its newly
kashered kitchen at
Camp Maas later this month.
The ceremony placing the
facility under the supervision
of the Detroit Council of Or-
thodox Rabbis is tentatively
slated for June 19.
Rabbi Yosef Jacobowitz has
been hired as the on-site
mashgiach (kashrut super-
visor) at the camp, located
near Ortonville. Rabbi
Jacobowitz is the brother of
Rabbi Avraham Jacobowitz,
founder of Machon Elbrah in
Oak Park.
Construction of a dining
pavilion at Camp Maas was
recently completed. The
50-by-150-foot structure will
allow up to 700 campers to
dine together and provide
space for rainy day camp
activities.
The Fresh Air Society brief-
ly halted construction on the
pavilion in April after Camp
Maas naturalist Bill Frankel
charged that building on the
site may have been in viola-
tion of Michigan's wetlands
preservation law.
Frankel was fired and a
state Department of Natural
Resources investigation show-
ed there was no violation of
the law.

New York (JTA) — Mikhail
Rozenshtein, son of 14-year
refusenik Grigory Rozen-
shtein, has received permis-
sion to emigrate, thus paving
the way for the entire family's
leaving for Israel.
Grigory Rozenshtein, a
leading Moscow activist, is a
computer scientist who
resigned from his position at
the Science and Research In-
stitute for Instrument
Automization in 1974, in an-
ticipation of applying to im-
migrate to Israel.
He received permission to
leave with his wife, Natalia,
and their younger son,
Ephraim, in May. But
Mikhail, a hospital
paramedic, was refused on
grounds that he had
knowledge of state secrets.
His wife, Vera, and their three
children were also refused.
