Ethiopians Move
Into Housing
Jerusalem (JTA) — Jewish
Agency Executive chairman
Simcha Dinitz reported that
an agreement between the
Jewish Agency and the gov-
ernment will result in moving
immigrants from Ethiopia
out of absorption centers and
into permanent housing.
Dinitz said that he and
Mendel Kaplan, chairman of
the Jewish Agency Board of
Governors, agreed with Ab-
sorption Minister Ya'acov
Tsur on how to tackle the
problem.
It was decided to close ab-
sorption centers in Ashkelon,
Pardess Hanna and Or Akiva,
where Ethiopian immigrants
live in mobile homes, within
three months. About 100
families will be affected.
Dinitz also announced that
800 apartments will be pur-
chased by the agency at the
rate of 150 per month. At the
same time, the housing
eligibility criteria for im-
migrants will be eased.

Settler Charged
With Murder
Jerusalem (JTA) — A West
Bank Jewish settler was
charged in court with un-
necessarily shooting an Arab
to death and wounding
another in a skirmish near
Shiloh on May 5.
The victim, a shepherd from
Turmus Aiya village, was ac-
costed by the accused, Yisrael
Zeev, who ordered him and
three other Arabs to leave a
field belonging to Shiloh,
where they were grazing their
sheep.
According to the charge
sheet, Zeev fired into the air.
One of the shepherds alleged-
ly cried out "Yisrael, don't
shoot, we are leaving?' But
Zeev continued to shoot, kill-
ing one shepherd and woun-
ding another.
If convicted, he could face
up to 20 years in prison.
