C BRIDGE STREET • • • GALLERY • • • New Chabad House Set To Open In Grand Rapids ELIZABETH KAPLAN 616/547-5944 Open seven days • At the bridge in Charlevoix THE FINEST IN HOME SECURITY' Staff Writer N othing here speaks of the ordinary. Take a certain photograph, for example, of Rabbi Yosef Weingarten, director of the Chabad House of Western Michigan, and his wife, Sarah. The two are look- ing out from a red window frame on a little boat. On the side is taped a sign that reads, "Guarantee our Jewish future with a Ibrah educa- tion." It was May 5 — 18 Iyar on the Hebrew calender, Rabbi Weingarten will remind you — and the couple was leading a Lag B'Omer boat trip. These days, Rabbi Wein- garten is captain of another project: overseeing the com- pletion of the Arlene and Rose Lando Chabad House in Grand Rapids. It is named in memory of the wife and mother, respectively, of the late Herman Lando, a major benefactor of the facility. The Arlene and Rose Lando Chabad House The Arlene and Rose Lando Chabad House will be dedicated in mid-August. Rabbi Weingarten describes the new Chabad House with a mixture of architectural finesse and unrestrained delight. Go up the stairs, he says, and through the doors to the shul. There is a room which can expand to a dining area and, on the right, his and his wife's offices. A small kitchen will be included, as will an elevator for the handicapped. Downstairs, there are two entrances. Pass through the first, walk down the hall and you will find the new home of the nursery school and two rooms to be used for classrooms or as guest rooms.
