Her Bat Mitzvah
Danielle Steinberg, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Lawrence Steinberg, will twin
her bat mitzvah Saturday
with Elina Zilberman of
Baku in Azerbaidzhan.
Elina and her family have
been refused exit visas since
1978, when her step-father
Leonid Gerner first asked to
leave the Soviet Union. The
family is still looking forward
to leaving as soon as possible.

Gorokhova of Moscow,
U.S.S.R., on Saturday morn-
ing at Congregation Beth
Abraham Hillel Moses.
Sofya's father, David, is a
physicist and mathematician,
but since making an applica-
tion for a visa in 1981, he is
unable to find work in his
field. Her mother, Asya, is an
engineer but is also unable to
find professional employ-
ment. They were refused for
reasons of "secrecy!'

Amy Mintz of West Bloom-
field twinned her bat mitzvah
recently with Anna Latin--
skaya of Leningrad, at Thm-
ple Beth El.
Anna is the daughter of
Iosef, a graphic artist, and
Olga, a mathematics teacher.
The Latinskys began to
gather the necessary informa-
tion for applying for exist
visas in August 1979. Mr. and
Mrs. Latinsky's parents
became angry with them and
each set of parents demanded
1,000 rubles. The money was
raised and given to the
parents. Finally, in November
1979, the Latinskys submit-
ted their visa applciation.
They refused, their telephone
was disconnected and they
both lost their jobs.
In August 1981, the Latin-
skys submitted a second ap-
plication for exit visas and
were refused again because of
"insufficient kinship?'
The Latinskys still wait
hopefully in Russia, estrang-
ed from their parents and
unable to work at their oc-
cupations. Amy and her
mother have written many
letters, but have not yet
received an answer. Mean-
while, the Latinskys have
been made Israeli citizens.
