Bulka will be the guest speaker at the Jewish National Fund testimonial dinner June 13 at Congregation Shaarey Zedek honoring Sen. Jack Faxon. Rabbi Bulka received his rabbinical ordination in 1965 from the Rabbi Jacob Joseph Rabbinical Seminary in New York and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Ottawa in 1971, concentrating on the logotherapy of Prof. Viktor E. Frankel. He has been the rab- bi of Congregation Machzikei Hadas, Ottawa, Canada, since 1967. He is host of the television series "About Ourselves," and is listed in international "Who's Who in Religion," the "Dictionary of Internatinal Biography," "Who's Who of Intellectuals" and the "Capital List?' He is chair- man of the Rabbinical Coun- cil of America Family and Marriage Committee and editor of its family and mar- riage newsletter since 1976. In 1966, she was executive director of Keep Improving Detroit Schools (KIDS), a coalition to campaign for passage of millage. She was executive director of PRO Detroit, a coalition to assure peaceful implementa- tion of court ordered desegregation; associate ex- ecutive director for. state- federal relations of the Michigan Association of School Boards and staff direc- tor of Michigan State Educa- tion Committee. Governor William Milliken appointed her a commissioner of the Education Committee of the States in 1979, a position she still holds. In November, 1987 whe was named acting president, Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. In 1969, Mrs. Straus was appointed by the late Mayor Jerome P. Cavanagh as assistant director, Committee on Community Renewal and as deputy director of the Model Neighborhood Agency. She is a former president of the League of Women Voters and a member of its state board. Among her current af- filiations: vice president of the University Cultural Center Association, board of trustees of the Detroit Science Center, Wayne Count Art and History Commission. A member of the American Jewish Committee for almost 25 years, which she joined with her late husband, Everet, Mrs. Straus serves on its national education task force and is a member of the Detroit Chapter's advisory committee. She was one of the founding members of the Detroit Woman's Forum, (a project of the Detroit chapter) a coali- tion of racial, ethnic and religious diversity.
