Rabbi Berel Wein will
speak on "An Organized
Kehillah (Community) and
the Vaad Harabonim" on
Wednesday at the Westin
Hotel for the 58th annual din-
ner of the Council of Or-
thodox Rabbis of Greater
Detroit. Rabbi Wein is the
son-in-law of the honoree,
Rabbi Leizer Levin.
Rabbi Wein is a graduate of
the Hebrew Theological Col-
lege located in Skokie, Ill.,
and received his rabbinic or-
dination from the institute in
1955. He is also a graduate of
Roosevelt College of Chicago
from which he received a B.A.
degree, of De Paul University
of Chicago from which he
received a Juris Doctor
degree and from the graduate
school of Hebrew Theological
College which granted him a
D.H.L. degree.
Rabbi Wein was a lawyer in
Chicago from 1955 to 1964. In
1964, he assumed the pulpit
of Beth Israel Congregation
in Miami Beach, Fla. In the
spring of 1972 he was ap-

pointed executive vice presi-
dent of the Union of Orthodox
Congregations of America.
He assumed the position of
Rabbinic Administrator of the
kashrut division of the Union
of Orthodox Congregations of
America in October 1972 and
remained in that position un-
til September 1977, when he
founded Yeshiva Shaarei

Torah of Rockland, which he
heads.
He is also rabbi of Con-
gregation Bais Ibrah of Suf-
fern, N.Y. Rabbi Wein's book
of halachic essays, "Chikrei
Halacha," was published in
1976. He is also the author of
numerous articles that have
appeared in periodicals both
here and in Israel. He is also
the author of a tape cassette
series on Jewish history and
is writing a book on Jewish
history that will be publish-
ed next year.
The honorary chairman of
the dinner is Max Fisher and
the general chairman is Paul
Borman. Leonard Borman,
Judge Avern Cohn and David
Hermelin are associate
chairmen, and Harold Bez-
nos, Morris Flatt, David
Holtzman and Nathan Sober-
