The winners were Andrew Song, pianist; Gabriel Bolkosky, violinist; and Miriam Bolkosky, cellist. A student of Mischa Kottler, Andrew started his music education from his mother when he was 6. At age 10, he was a soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for a Young People's Concert. At 13, Andrew played with the Warren Symphony Orchestra. In July 1986, Andrew won first place in the Blue Lake Concerto Competition and in June 1987 he received third place in the Young Keyboard International Piano Competi- tion in Ann Arbor. Gabriel began studying the Suzuki method of violin at age 4. At 14, he is studying with Michael Avsharian in Ann Arbor. He has won awards from the Music Study Club of Metropolitan Detroit, the National Music Camp at Interlochen, the Amity Music Club, the Livonia and Oakland Youth Symphonies. He has been a member of the Detroit Symphony Civic Or- chestra since he was 11. Winner of the junior divi- sion of the Troy Community Orchestra Concerto Competi- tion in 1987, Gabriel perform- ed with that orchestra in March. Last January, he won the Rochester Community Orchestra Concerto Com- opetition. With his sister, Miriam, Gabriel is a member of a string quartet and a string trio which is coached by Yitzak Schotten of the U-M. Miriam was one of 12 cellists selected to tour with the International Suzuki Association in 1977. At 7, she performed at Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. Miriam began playing the cello on a viola when she was 4. She performed with the Rochester Symphony Orchestra in 1985. She spent one month at In- diana University studying chamber music in the sum- mer of 1986 and was selected to perform in one of the honors recitals. The concert is free and open to the public.
