Veterans
Conduct
Memorial Rite

Jewish War Veterans, De-
partment of Michigan and
Ladies Auxiliary, will honor
the memory of Jews who
served in the U.S. military at
Memorial Day services on
Sunday at 10 a.m. at
Machpelah Cemetery.
At noon, memorial services
will be conducted by the
Jewish War Veterans at
Hebrew Memorial Park
(Chesed Shel Emes). Flags
will be available at these
cemeteries and at the Jewish
War Veterans building.
Jack Schwartz, chief of staff
and national executive com-
mittee member, and Jack
Berman, national service of-
ficer of the Jewish War
Veterans, are in charge of the
memorial program. Milton
Klein, department com-
mander, and Ruth Weiss,
department president, will of-
ficiate at the services.
Cantor Hyman Adler, chap-
lain emeritus, and Thomas
Tannis, chaplain of the
Jewish War Veterans, will
conduct the services. The
Russian Jewish War Veterans
will join the services.

Parley Nears
For Veterans

The 47th annual conven-
tion of the Department of
Michigan and Ladies Aux-
iliary of The Jewish War
Veterans will take place on
June 3-5.
Department Commander
Milton Klein and Depart-
ment President Ruth Weiss
said that more than 20
scholarships of $500 each will
be awarded to qualified
children of veterans. The
presentation will be made at
the Oneg Shabbat to be held
on June 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the
Jewish War Veterans Memo-
rial Home. One scholarship
will be awarded by the De-
partment of Michigan in
honor of Russian Jewish war
veterans.
The "1988 Man of the Year"
award will be given to Donald
Fracassi, mayor of Southfield,
"for his outstanding contribu-
tion over the years to the
Jewish War Veterans:"
On June 4 at 9 a.m., the
department and auxiliary
will attend services at Con-
gregation Beth Achim. A ban-
quet honoring Commander
Klein and President Weiss
will be held at the Northfield
Hilton Hotel with dancing to
Ed Burg and his Orchestra.
Convention business will
commence on June 5.
