Next time at Rialto, give Charlie your congrats too. THE GRAY and black decor of swanky-looking Sultan's on Orchard Lake Road around the north end side of Robin's Next Shoping Center at 14 Mile (behind Dunham's) is always a welcomed experience. Our bow-tied waitress, Ada Amral, certainly deserves mention for her quiet efficien- cy, politeness and gracious endeavors to please. Naturally, I had those fabulous meatless stuffed grape leaves Walid Eid has become quite noted for .. . And the shish tawook (chunks of charbroiled chicken breast marinated in olive oil, garlic and spices) was again outstanding. Our companion had the vegetarian plate and discovered why nobody can eat it all . . . Very few people who have this dish leave without a carryout . . . unless others at the table or booth want to dig in . . . which they usually do . . . At $15.95, with about five different items, it's a heck of a good buy. Sultan's is open seven days a week . . . but beginning in June, it will close Mondays. GEORGIA OLSEN at March of Dimes continues do- ing her fine work with little fanfare . . . Georgia's latest fundraising venture is June 13 when the March of Dimes has its "Pre-Prix Potpourri" at Woodbridge Tavern, corner of St. Auburn and Wood- bridge, 5 to 9 p.m. It'll be hosted by owner Marcia Cron, with the even- ing's activities slated to in- clude a Grand Prix fashion show by Leah Marks, display of formula Ford Cars, dancing and costume prizes. Call Georgia by June 9 at 423-3200. "TEARS" single recording was written by Alan Nathan- son, son of localites Ruth and Buddy Nathanson . . . Flip side, "It's Gotta Be Love" is the work of Alan and Roger Stone. FRESH FROM her choreographic debut with the successful New York City Opera Co.'s revival of "The Music Man," former local lass Marcia Milgrom Dodge has been selected to choreograph "Sullivan & Gilbert," a new musical based upon the life and unusual working rela- tionship of the famed playwrights. Marcia was the personal choice of Beverly Sills, general manager of the New York City Opera Co., to choreograph their production of Meredith Wilson's peren- nial favorite, "The Music Man," which debuted March 1 at the New York State Theater in Lincoln Center. As a choreographer, she has won critical praise for her work on productions of classics like "Gypsy," "Guys and Dolls," "Anything Goes" and "Little Shop of Horrors" . . . Marcia directed a well- received version of Neil Simon's classic comedy, "The Odd Couple." She has also served as assis- tant director on productions starring Michael York and Hal Holbrook. Marcia's dad, Myron Milgrom, is very active here in local community affairs. JOHNNY TRUDELL'S big band sound, which has been in such high demand for that type of danceable music, will return again this Mon- day . . . to "Musical Monday Nights" at Kingsley Inn on Woodward, 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The series is held in the Kingsley ballroom, a large, sunken marble dance floor. Johnny opened the Monday evening shindigs at Kingsley back in March . . . and played again last week . . . Little doubt that he is a big favorite. BEING NAMED Restaurant of The Year by Detroit Monthly magazine is still another achievement by Golden Mushroom, 10 Mile and Southfield . . . With little fanfare, it has frequently been rated among the finest dining spots in the Detroit metropolitan area . . . As "Bud Taste," the magazine's pseudonym-name reviewer then said, "Golden Mushroom year in and year out has provided a superlative standard of service and cuisine." Owner Reid Ashton, graduate of Michigan State's hotel restaurant and institu- tional management school opened the Golden Mushroom in 1973 . . . in the building which was previously oc- cupied by Rascal House Deli. Since its beginning, Reid has worked hard to establish and keep the high standards of service and cuisine the Golden Mushroom is noted for . . . He stays abreast of cur- rent industry trends as chair- man of the board of the Michigan Restaurant Associ- ation, and also actively sup- ports Michigan's 1988 Culinary Team, a group of chefs who will represent our state this October in Frankfurt, Germany at the 1988 Culinary Salon . . . Golden Mushroom co-owner Chef Milos Cihelka is the team's manager.
