Holocaust Topic
At WSU June 1
"Two Journeys Into Night,"
a remembrance of the Holo-
caust and genocide, will be
held at 9:45 a.m. June 1 at
Wayne State University's
McGregor Memorial Con-
ference Center. The program
will conclude with an invita-
tional lunch at 12:30 p.m.
Sponsored by the Office for
Community Relations, the
Center for Peace and Conflict
Studies, and the departments
of Romance and Germanic
languages and Slavic and
Eastern languages, the pro-
gram will feature talks by
University of Michigan
History Prof. Ronald Grigar
Suny and Andre Ungar, rab-
bi of Temple Emanuel in New
Jersey.
Prof. Suny, who also directs
the Armenian Studies Pro-
gram at U of M, will discuss
"Rethinking the Un-
thinkable: An Historian's
Reading of the Armenian
Genocide."
He was a senior fellow at
the Russian Institute at Col-
umbia University (1976) and
a fellow at the Russian
Research Center at Harvard
University. This year he is
serving as distinguished
visiting professor of Russian
history at the University of
California, Irvine.
The second speaker, Rabbi
Andre Ungar, is a survivor of
the Holocaust. His topic will
be "Killers, Victims,
Altruists:
Bystanders,
Psychology."
Holocaust
Ungar has written more than
100 articles, and has lectured
all over the world.
Expelled from South Africa
for opposing apartheid,
Ungar has produced and nar-
rated 40 television programs
devoted to Jewish history in
the modern period. He is cur-
rently chairman of the
Hebraic studies department
at Rutgers University.
