The COR with the active united cooperation of the twenty-five Rabbis who volunteer their time, efforts and scholarship are committed to main- taining the principles of Jewish practice. Their continued involvement in every aspect of Jewish life and their care for the individual and com- munal needs of Jews in this city regardless of personal orientation, make it incumbent upon every one of us to actively support their ef- forts. The Jewish News cover of June 5, 1987, designed by Kim Muller-Thym, earned the second place award. The issue carried a special report on "The Meaning of the Six- Day War" and the cover in- cluded a color photograph of a soldier praying at the Western Wall in 1967 after Jerusalem was reunited. Staff writer David Holzel's Close-Up article on Jonathan Pollard on June 26, 1987, "American Prisoner of Zion," earned honorable mention in the news writing category. Jewish News Editor Gary Rosenblatt, who also edits the Baltimore Jewish Times, won a third-place award in the news writing category for an article that appeared in Baltimore, "Baltimore Greets A Jewish Hero."
