Friends The American Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem announced that Dr. Harris W. Mainster has been elected president of the Michigan Chapter. Dr. Mainster will be install- ed as president at a black-tie- optional dinner to be held at Cong. Shaarey Zedek on May 25. At the dinner the Michigan Chapter will also salute Harvey Grace "for his meritorious service" during his tenure as president of the organization. Chairman of the depart- ment of surgery at Botsford General Hospital, Dr. Mainster has also served as an associate clinical professor of surgery at Michigan State University, as deputy medical examiner of Oakland County, as adjunct professor of surgery at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and is an author and contributor to the AOA Journal of the Michigan Osteopathic Association. DE Mainster is noted for his teaching and medical/surgi- cal service to governments and hospitals in Third World countries over the last 16 years. He has provided ser- vices to such countries as Nicaragua, India, New Guinea, Nepal, Thailand, the Sudan, the Philippines, and Indonesia, as well as to American Samoa, Alaska, and Indian reservations in Pine Ridge, S.D. Dr. Mainster has served the Jewish community as a board member of Jewish Communi- ty Center, the Hillel Day School, and the Jewish Welfare Federation. He is a Dr. Harris Mainster former president of the Pro- fessional Health Division and the Osteopathic Division of the Allied Jewish Campaign and of the Prime Minister's Club and Ambasador's Socie- ty of Trustees of Israel Bonds. He is currently the president of Cong. Beth Abraham Hillel Moses. The installation dinner is being chaired by past presidents Erwin Ziegelman and Harold Berry. The special guest speaker for the installation dinner will be Dr. David W. Weiss, chairman of the Hebrew University's Lautenberg Center for Tumor Im- munology. Dr. Weiss, an or- dained rabbi, is considered to be one of the world's leading cancer authorities, as well as a noted philosopher, lecturer and author. Summer Classes Offered At Maple/Drake Center The educational depart- ment of the Jewish Com- munity Center announces that summer mini classes will be held at the Maple/ Drake building. The first four-week session will start the week of June 5 and ends the week of June 26. The second four-week session starts the week of July 10 and ends the week of July 31. The music department will offer classes in Suzuki violin, cello and piano, as well as traditional lessons in piano, flute. recorder. violin and viola. Music instruction for individuals with learning disabilities will also be featured. The dance department will offer children's classes in pre- school dance, jazz, ballet and for adults, ballet and tap. In the art department there will be a studio, gallery and museum tour class for six con- secutive Thursdays. There will also be an "Art in the Park" traveling art class of sketching out of doors and at museums, as well as the "Ex- perimental Watercolor" class. An advanced reading course will be available.
