Detroiter Heads
Israel Songfest

of
Emma Schaver
Southfield, chairman of the
International Zimriya Com-
mittee, was in Israel as 750
choristers representing 28
Jewish choirs from seven
countries assembled on Mt.
Scopus, Jerusalem, for a
week's special 40th anniver-
sary zimriya.
Singers from Uruguay,
Hungary, the U.S., Canada,
England, France and
Switzerland were joined by
200 Israeli singers on the
Hebrew University campus.
During the week all choirs
studied Dov Carmel's Hymns
especially commissioned for
the occasion, as well as a
repertoire of Israeli songs. All
choirs met with Israeli com-
posers and conductors.

Beth El Honors
Its Teachers

Sandra Zipser, a member of
the Temple Beth El religious
school faculty, was honored
"for 15 years of service to the
congregation's eduCation pro-
gram," 13 of them teaching
second grade.
Honored for ten years of ser-
vice were: Laurel Epstein,
Barbara Dorfman, Dena
Sanders and Vicki Varnett.
Five-year honorees are:
Sheila Sage, Rosanne
DeRoven, Ruth Moss, Bar-
bara Herman and Jay
Kaplan.
