Ex-Refusenik
To Speak Here

Evgenia Dragunsky, for-
merly of Leningrad, will be in
Detroit as guest of the Jewish
Community Council and
Temple Kol Ami to discuss
the situation of Soviet Jews.
Mrs. Dragunsky will speak
at Temple Kol Ami at services
today at 8 p.m. Kol Ami
"adopted" the Dragunsky
family and was involved in a
letter writing campaign on its
behalf just prior to its release
to freedom one year ago.
On Sunday, Mrs. Dragun-
sky will address young people
at Temple Beth El at
10:15 a.m. and at 11:30 a.m.
in the Alpert Room. The com-
munity is invited to attend
both evening services at Tem-
ple Kol Ami and the sessions
on Sunday morning at Tem-
ple Beth El.
A specialist in intestinal in-
fections, Mrs. Dragunsky first
applied for permission to
emigrate in October 1978
with her husband and son.
Upon receipt of their refusal
in December 1978 both Mrs.
Dragunsky and her husband
were fired from their jobs. The
reason given for the refusal of
the visa applications was the
security restriction of Mrs.
Dragunsky's brother who liv-
ed far from Leningrad and
who had contact with her
very infrequently.
The Dragunskys had been
visited by several Detroiters
over the years.

Hosts Seminars

The first program to be
sponsored by the Esther
Brown Endowment Fund for
Research in Geriatric
Podiatry will be offered at the
Jewish Home for Aged's
Educational Center on
Wednesday.
Dr. Arthur Helfand, chair-
man of the department of
community health and aging
for the Pennsylvania College
of Podiatric Medicine in
Philadelphia, will lead two
seminars for health care pro-
fessionals in long-term care.
Helfand is also a member of
the long-term care profes-
sional and technical advisory
committee of the Joint Com-
mission on Accreditation of
Hospitals in Chicago.
Created in memory of his
grandmother, a former Bor-
man Hall/JHA resident, by
Dr. Lawrence S. Brown, the
Brown Fund will sponsor lec-
tures, studies and non-
invasive research in the area
of geriatric podiatry.
