that he was, indeed, guilty as
charged — guilty of crimes
against humanity, crimes
against the Jewish people,
crimes against persecuted
people in Treblinka and war
crimes.
John Demjanjuk, who lied
on his visa application form
to get into the United States
after the war and then settled
in Cleveland, Ohio, where he
worked as a diesel mechanic
for the Ford Motor Company,
is likely to live out the final
months of his life in the same
3 x 3.5-yard cell that he has
occupied since he arrived in
Israel more than two years
ago.
The cell, in a specially con-
structed high-security wing of
the Ayalon Jail, contains a
simple cot, a small wooden
chair, a table and a sink.
Attached is a courtyard,
roofed by barbed wire, where
Demjanjuk is able to walk 12
yards in one direction and
eight in the other.
The cell is lit 24 hours a day
and two closed-circuit televi-
sion cameras enable teams of
five guards to keep him under
round-the-clock observation
in order to prevent any possi-
ble suicide attempts.
When Demjanjuk entered
the prison, he was supplied
with three woollen blankets,
orange shirts and brown
trousers bearing the initials
of the Israeli prison service.
He is woken at six each
morning and is served the
regular prison breakfast (he
receives the same food as that
supplied to Israeli soldiers in
the field).
He is the only person in an
Israeli prison under sentence
of death and is completely
isolated from other prisoners.
He is visited frequently by his
family and a priest, reads
books on religion and makes
constant references to God,
whom he describes as his
"sole witness?'
If the Supreme Court panel
upholds the death sentence,
Demjanjuk is likely to hang,
the form of execution applied
26 years ago in the case of
Adolf Eichmann, the chief ar-
chitect of the Holocaust and
the only person to have been
executed in Israel's history.
Eichmann was abducted
from his adopted home in
Argentina by Israeli in-
telligence agents in May 1960
and was flown secretly to
Israel.
He was sentenced to death
on Dec. 15, 1961, and was ex-
ecuted just before midnight
on May 31, 1962, two days
after his appeal had been re-
jected by the Supreme Court
and just hours after President
Yitzhak Ben-Zvi had turned
down an appeal for clemency.

AUDETTE SET THE STANDARDS
BY WHICH ALL OTHERS ARE JUDGED

For style and luxury, Cadillac has long been the No, 1 preference
of the selective person who will settle for nothing but the best. Today's
Cadillacs follow a long tradition of classic and luxurious automobiles
that have set the highest standards in the industry and throughout the
world.
Our state-of-the-art Allantes, DeVilles, Broughams, Eldorados and
Sevilles have proven to be extraordinary in a world filled with mediocrity.

Since 1975, Frank Audette has worked to achieve a reputation as fine
as the Cadillacs he sells and services.

Audette is the "Good Service" dealer and each and every
department takes a special interest in maintaining that reputation. From
the great deals offered by our experienced sales staff, to our caring
professionals in our service, body and paint shops, Audette is the
standard by which other dealers are judged.
