"1 ' 1 ' 1 '1 NEWS Pro-Palestinian Moves Rejected New York (JTA) — By a vote of 4 to 1, the executive board of the California Democratic Party rejected a proposed plat- form amendment calling on the United States to support Palestinian statehood and an international peace conference. Despite the vote, both pro- Israel and pro-Arab groups agree last week that the serious consideration given the proposal represented a significant display of pro- Palestinian sentiment among the state's Democrats. That the issue was debated at all was a "moral victory," accord- ing to Salam Al Marayati, the originator of the amendment. Rabbi Abraham Cooper, who as vice dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles was one of the lead- ers of the fierce Jewish op- position to the campaign, call- ed the proposal's progress "distressing." The original proposal was recently presented by the Arab American Democratic Federation. DETROIT MONUMENT WORKS Monday thru Thursday 9 A.M. to 5 P.M.
