Docks 50th

Spending the winter in
California, at the Century
Plaza Hotel, .Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Docks (Sara) of Birm-
ingham, were honored recent-
ly at a surprise dinner party
held at the Westwood Mar-
quis Hotel.
The affair was given by
their children, Susie, son Les
and wife, Pam of San Antonio,
Tex. Michigan guests were
Harvey and Eileen Gross,
brother and sister-in-law of
the happy couple, and Russ
and Gail Barget.
Also participating in the

celebration were other former
Michiganders now residing in
California. Among the guests
were David Gross from San
Ramone, Calif., and Brian
Gross, nephews of the
honorees, Dr. and Mrs. E.J.
Simons (Belle), for whom
Sara was a bridesmaid 51.
years ago, Sam and Edith
Warner Dickman, and
Sydney Pastor.
An engraved gold platter
with the names of the couple
and their children was
presented to Sara and Harry
by Susie, Les and Pam.

Seniors Have Song Fest

The senior adult depart-
ment of the Jewish Com-
munity Center will have an
international song fest,
featuring Russian folksinger,
Lydia Meltser, and the Lahser
High School Madrigal
Singers, "The Knight
Singers" on Sunday at 2 p.m.
in Jaffe Hall of the Jimmy
Prentis Morris Building.
Refreshments will be served.
On Mondays at 1:30 p.m. in
the JPM atrium, a drop-in
discussion group will take
place. It will focus on issues
such as coping with change,
dealing with grown children
and handling criticism. Leila
Raden is the facilitator.
The Book Fair video, The
Transfer Agreement, will be
shown on Monday and Thurs-
day at 10 a.m. in the lobby.
On Tuesday and Thursday
at 9 a.m., Cal Friedman is
teaching a woodcarving class
in Room 2 of the JPM. There

is a charge for supplies.
Rabbi Elimelech Silberberg
of the Bais Chabad of West
Bloomfield will speak on
"Jewish History Through the
Eyes of the Torah" at 1 p.m.
in the JPM assembly hall.
Following Rabbi Silberberg's
lecture, the movie, The Pa-
jama Game, will be shown.

Persons interested in reser-
ving garden space behind the

JPM building should attend a
registration meeting on
Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the
assembly hall. A film, A Va-
cant Lot, will be shown and
available land will be divided.
Jewish literature will be
discussed by Chana Klein in
the library of the JPM at
10:15 a.m. on Wednesday.
Eugene Driker will discuss
his travels through Eastern
Europe at the Culture Club in
Jaffe Hall at 12:30 p.m.
Thursday. Everyone is
invited.
