"I've been all over the world
basically, except the Soviet
Union and Eastern Europe. I
guess I've got to go to the
North Pole and see what's
there."
When he is not travelling,
Brode, who is single, spends
some of his free hours at — of
all places — the Franklin Rac-
quet Club, owned by his
father, Seymour. The younger
Brode is also involved with
the Israeli Thnnis Centers
organization, which his
father currently heads. The
younger Brode likes the
centers "because I actually
know where that contribution
is going," and because "it's
more of a humanitarian
thing. Humanitarian mean-
ing it is open to any person
that lives in Israel, it's not
just limited to Jewish people.
And I think it's very impor-
tant to have that type of at-
titude to bring in everybody
and help everybody in that
area."
The globe-trotting Brode,
who is currently working on
plans to produce a local, one-
half hour TV show, has no
desire to leave Detroit.
"I love Detroit. I think it's
the land of opportunity. A lot
of people say to me, because of
my profession, why am I not
in New York or California?
And I love New York, but .. .
I can pick up the telephone
and be there just as easily as
being located in New York.
Also, the two coasts, that's
where the competition is and
I feel there's a nice little niche
here that's been carved in the
Detroit area, for this sort of
thing. When people think
Detioit, nobody thinks enter-
tainment, but what they fail
to realize is we probably have
the greatest sports city in
America, one of the greatest
sports cities. We definitely
have one of the most com-
petitive television and radio
markets in the country. And
we do more film in this area
than anywhere else besides
the east and west coasts. And
people don't know that. But
it's here and it's happening."
And as long as it's happen-
ing in Detroit, Rick Brode
will be a part of it. 0
