Mrs. Hollander is looking forward to Sunday's Jewish Festival '88. "I'm excited about the entire festival and I hope God will work with us and the sun will shine!" After enumerating the kinds of communal projects planned in observance of Israel's milestone anniver- sary, Mrs. Borman lauded the synagogues and organiza- tions who brought them to fruition. "We want the general community to be ap- preciative of what Israel has done. I'm real pleased with what's going on." Israeli Artist Exhibits Here Israeli artist Raphael Abecassis, whose parchment paintings have achieved world-wide acclaim, will open an exhibit of his works at the Maple/Drake Jewish Com- munity Center on Sunday. The exhibit, which is part of Jewish Festival '88, celebrating Israel's 40th an- niversary, will run through May 15. Born in Morocco, Abecassis immigrated to Israel in 1956. He studied art at the College of Education in Beersheva, Israel. In his paintings, Abecassis uses Biblical and Jewish themes. He has appeared numerous times in Israeli television. In 1986, he won the national contest to design the official poster in honor of Israel's 38th independence day. The next year, he received an award for his illuminated Psalms of David project. Jewish Festival '88, a day- long celebration marking Israel's 40th year of statehood, will include Israeli and Jewish foods, entertain- ment, dancing, music, children's activities, clowns and balloons.
