Shamir and Rabin are
emulating that language and
it is time to muzzle them.
If Israel has no choice —
and it appears it does not —
then its job is to explain to the
world its dilemma and do so
with gentility, diplomacy,
understanding and humanity.
Civility is not synonymous
with weakness; firmness need
not be coupled with
insensitivity.
Putting safety factors and
the realm of the possible in
politics aside, much could be
gained by having a govern-
ment official attend the
funeral of a Palestinian, ex-
pressing regrets for the death
and violence and calling for
mutual cooperation to end the
confrontations.
If that can't be done, it cer-
tainly can be expressed in
moderate and civil languages
to the world.

NOW IS THE TIME FOR JEWS
EVERYWHERE TO STAND UP WITH THE
PEOPLE OF ISRAEL.
OUR PLEDGE OF SUPPORT AND UNITY
GIVES STRENGTH AND COURAGE TO
OUR BROTHERS & SISTERS IN THEIR
ONGOING SEARCH FOR PEACE.

Germans Oppose
Prosecutions

Bonn (JTA) — More than
half of the West German
population is against the fur-
ther prosecution of Nazi war
criminals, according to a
public opinion survey releas-

The results of the West Ger-
man survey contrast sharply
with one conducted
simultaneously in Holland.
More than two-thirds of the
Dutch surveyed supported
prosecuting criminals who
killed Jews and others during
World War II.
In West Germany, 51 per-
cent of the 1,005 individuals
surveyed spoke out against
prosecution while 47 percent
supported it. The others fail-
ed to give an answer.

Israel Gets Raw
Deal, Say Danes

Jerusalem (JTA) A visiting
group of veterans of Den-
mark's World War II anti-
Nazi underground believes
Israel is getting a raw deal
from the international news
media.
The group, numbering 140,
including Denmark's am-
bassador to Israel, said after
touring the administered ter-
ritories and east Jerusalem
that while they are concern-
ed by the situation, they
found it different from the
"often one-sided and
manipulative picture created
by certain mass media:'
