April 23 at age 78.
Born in Montreal, Que.,
Mrs. Bookstein lived 62 years
in Detroit. She was the past
vice president of the League
of Jewish Women's Organiza-
tions. Mrs. Bookstein also was
affiliated with the Greater
Detroit Interfaith Round
Table of the National Con-
ference of Christians and
Jews and the Oak Park
Friendly Visitors.
She is survived by two
daughters, Rita and Mrs.
Gerald (Joan) Penfil; three
grandchildren and three
great-grandsons.

Robert Marks, owner of
Dependable Pest Control Co.,
died April 19 at age 71.
Born in Detroit, Mr. Marks
was a member of Detroit
Lodge of B'nai B'rith and past
blood bank chairman for the
lodge. He was active on behalf
of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
He was a member of the War
Birds of the RAF. He also
worked on behalf of the Allied
Jewish Campaign.
He leaves his wife, Myrtle;
a son, Michael of Oakland,
Calif.

Sidney J. Bertin, owner of
Bertin and Bertin, Inc., in-
surance agency, died April 20.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr.
Bertin lived 38 years in the
Detroit area. An owner and
breeder of harness racing
horses, Mr. Bertin also owned
United Stock Farm. He was a
member of the Michgan
Harness Horsemen, United
States Trotting Association,
Pacific Lodge of the Masons
in New York, Franklin Hills
Country Club, current board
member of Sinai Hospital,
Boca Rio Country Club in
Boca Raton, Fla., and worked
