These Swingers Add
To The Trophy Case

669-1441

Local Columnist

T

hirty trophies in
five dance competi-
tions isn't bad . . . But
add another ten to the
trophy cases of Dee Shapiro
and partner Corey Riojas .. .
This time, however, in the
Pro Am Ballroom terpsi trot
they moved up the ladder of
dancing prowess by taking
them in the "silver" category.
Dee and Corey got their
"silvers" in cha cha, bolero,
swing, fox trot, waltz and
tango . . . at the recent 25th
annual Detroit's Interna-
tional Ball in Cobo Hall.
The Duo also captured
bronze awards in fox trot,
waltz and tango.
CONGRATS . . . to CPA
Sam Geller . . . on his
birthday.
THERE ARE three
mighty proud folks living in
the local area . . . Margot and
Jerome Halperin and Bert
Binkow.
Two years ago, Margot and
Jerome's son, John Halperin,
moved to Los Angeles for his
master of fine arts degree at
USC (University of Southern
California.)
He never returned . . .
working in the movie and
television industries . . . First
was a rock video for MTV
that was "Hit-Clip" of the
week . . . He was featured ac-
tor with a heavy rock and roll
group.
John was then cast as the
lead in a television pilot,
"Valley Hospital," which will
soon be shown on World Cable
Network . . . playing a young,
arrogant doctor in the
"General Hospital" parody.
He has just completed film-
ing of a feature movie titled
"Just Another Weekend" on
location in Colorado and San
Francisco . . . John is a young,
arrogant lawyer in this one
which should be out by end of
the year.
Parents Margot and Jerome
Halperin and grandmother
Bert Binkow not only gleam
with pride at the show biz rise
of John . . . but also for
Margot, how many Jewish
mothers can say their son is
both a doctor and a lawyer?
CONGRATS . . . to Blan-
che Elden . . . on her 90th bir-
thday . . . The old friend of the
Raskin family now lives in
Ann Arbor where son Sandorf
is senior district judge .. .
Sandy and wife Odie are hav-
ing a brunch tomorrow at the
Berkshire Hilton in Ann Ar-
bor for Blanche's relatives
and friends.

LARGER TURNOUT
than expected has caused
emergency change of site for
reunion by Alger Elementary
School classes 1900-1945 .. .
or anybody who attended
Alger . . . Over 300 sent in
reservations for the dinner-
dance . . . which will be held
tomorrow night at Ramada
Inn of Southfield on
Telegraph Rd., instead of
Kingsley Inn . . . For info, call
Lou Linden at Efros Drugs,
557-3400.
MOLLY ABRAHAM is an
interesting gal . . . with a lot
of restaurant knowledge for
gals attending the Temple
Israel Sisterhood Art Fair,
this Monday, 1 p.m. . . . Mol-
ly has been a restaurant

Kesner and Ben Davis to
middle-aisle it in May . . . Her
parents are localites Bernice
and Al Kesner . . . Ben's
parents, Netty and Morrie
Davis, live in Delray Beach.

fall of Winship Junior High

the 1964, 1965 and 1966
classes are being sought . . . If
