Court Dismisses
Eruv Challenge

New York (JTA) — The New
York State Court of Appeals
dismissed an appeal March
21 that challenged the con-
stitutionality of the Belle
Harbor "eruv," a physical
demarcation around an area
that allows observant Jews to
carry objects on the Sabbath.
The case marks the second
time an eruv has been unsuc-
cessfully challenged in court.
In the previous case, Judge
Anne Thompson of the
United States District Court
found in favor of an eruv in
Long Branch, N.J.
