The resolu- tion, supported by the other 14 members of the council, demanded that Israel allow the return of eight Palestin- ian activists deported from the West Bank and Gaza Strip to Lebanon. Last week's resolution also condemned Israel's use of live ammunition against Palestin- ian rioters and called on Israel to abide by the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, which protects the rights of inhabitants of occupied ter- ritories. Israel claims the con- vention does not apply to the territories it administers.
