refreshments, then return to
the Jewish Community
Center for Jewish Festival
'88.
Participants can walk any
distance. "Toe trucks" will be
available along the route to
pick up those in need of a ride.

Jewish Music
Highlights Event

The music of Israel as well
as music representing Jewish
communities of many lands
will highlight the Jewish
Festival '88 slated for May 1
at the Maple/Drake Jewish
Community Center.
Arranged by the Detroit
chapter, American Jewish
Committee, the day-long
event (10 a.m.-8 p.m.) will
feature Rita Falbel, who will
sing Jewish songs in many
languages. The Maxwell
Street Klezmer Band will per-
form English, Yiddish,
Hebrew and Russian
melodies. Israeli and Yiddish
music will be played by the
ABZ Trio.
Judith Cohen will sing
Moroccan Jewish songs and
Shirley Behar will lead the
singing of Sephardic folk
songs. Debbie Hochberg and
Mike Karoub will entertain
with cello and piano music in
the Jewish Center lobby
throughout the day. Diane
Hochberg is festival co-
chairman and head of the
entertainment committee.
The day also will include
foods of Jewish communities
around the world, Israeli dan-
cing, children's activities and
an art exhibit of the works of
Israeli artist Raphael
Abecassis.
The celebration is planned
to commemorate the 40th an-
niversary of the State of
Israel.

Israel 40th

Israel's 40th anniversary
will be celebrated at Gallery
Yakir, 29080 Inkster,
Southfield, on Sunday bet-
ween noon and 5 p.m.
Among artists exhibited in
this special anniversary show
is the father of modern Israeli
painting, Joseph Zaritsky.
Also to be exhibited are:
Aharon Bezalel, Gabi
Klasmer, Farideh, Joyce
Schmidt, Benjamin Levy and
Avraham Yakin.
