Artistic Envoy
Repeats Role

The United States Informa-
tion Agency has announced
that Deborah Berman, dean
of the School of Music at the
Institute of Music and Dance,
will repeat as an artistic am-
bassador this summer. With
violinist Kathleen Winkler,
pianist Berman will repre-
sent the United States in con-
certs and master classes in
Chile, Brazil and Australia.
The Winkler/Berman Duo
was first named to the Ar-
tistic Ambassador program
last year following a lengthy
nationwide audition process.
Their 1987 tour included ap-
pearances in Singapore,
Malaysia, Indonesia, South
Korea, and New Zealand. Ar-
tistic Ambassadors are rare-
ly asked to participate for
more than one year.
Berman became dean of the
School of Music at the In-
stitute of Music and Dance in
September 1985. Winkler is
associate professor of violin at
the Conservatory of Music at
Oberlin College.

Fischer Named
Music Director

Robert Fischer has been
named musical director of the
Attic Theatre's world
premiere production of Learn
to Fall, which chronicles in
part Fischer's musical direc-
tion of the hit stage show

The 1988/1989 season
opens with Sweet Charity,
Sept. 14 through Oct. 16,
followed by an eight-week
engagement of I'm Not Rap-
paport, Oct. 26 through
December 18. Stepping Out
opens Dec. 30 and runs
through Feb. 5. Company is
slated for Feb. 15 through
March 19. Broadway Bound
will run April 4 through May
7. The season closer is The
Nerd, May 16.
