Jeane Kirkpatrick
Here For Israel's 40th

Dr. Jeane Kirkpatrick,
former U.S. ambassador to
the United Nations, will ad-
dress the community at an
Israel 40th anniversary recep-
tion 7:30 p.m. May 2 at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek.
Reserved and general ad-
mission tickets are available
at the Jewish Community
Center. Refreshments will be
served.
The first woman to be ap-
pointed United States Perma-
nent Representative to the
United Nations, Kirkpatrick
is a recipient of the Presiden-
tial Medal of Freedom, the
nation's highest civilian
award. She also served as a
member of President
Reagan's Cabinet.
After serving one of the
longest terms of any UN am-
bassador, Kirkpatrick resign-
ed her position in 1985 and
returned to private life to
teach, write and lecture.
Kirkpatrick is currently
writing a book. Her weekly
syndicated newspaper column
on international affairs can
be read locally in the Detroit
News.
In addition to the evening
with Kirkpatrick, Detroiters
will be able to welcome back
the Israeli singing troupe
Orot Hashcuna, when it per-
forms April 25 at the.
Maple/Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center. The concert
begins at 7:30 p.m., and there

On Thursday, the communi-
ty is invited to Cong. Shaarey
Zedek's Weisberg Concert —
"Not So Wild a Dream." Set
for 7:30 p.m., the program
features more than 100 local
performers in the world
premiere of a newly commis-
sioned work marking Israel's
40th anniversary. Tickets are
available at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek at no charge.
The community's obser-
vance of Israel War Memorial
Day, Yom Hazikaron, will
take place at 7:30 p.m. Tues-
day at the Maple/Drake
Jewish Community Center's
Shiffman Hall.
