"Serving the Jewish Community" ; New York (JTA) — Abraham Goodman, a leader of the Zionist Organizaion of America and active in numerous Jewish causes, died April 8 at age 98. Mr. Good- man rose from a pushcart vendor to chairman of a $300 million corporation, Goody Products, Inc. Mr. Goodman founded many Jewish-sponsored in- stitutions that reflected his interest in Jewish education and culture. They include the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia, the Herzliah Jewish Teachers Seminary in New York and Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach. He was virtually the sole source of financial sup- port for the Tarbuth Founda- tion for the Advancement of Hebrew Culture. In 1977, he contributed $2.5 million toward the erection of a building near Lincoln Center in Manhattan to house the Tarbuth Founda- tion and the Heberw Art School of Music and Dance. Completed in 1978, it was named the Abraham Good- man House. Mr. Goodman's many af- filiations and interests in- cluded the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. For a number of years he was treasurer of the JTA. During World War I, Mr. Goodman and his brother, Jacob, enlisted in the Jewish Legion. Use Of Tear Gas Called Humane Jewish tradition dictates that we acknowledge the inevitable and meet our responsibility with dignity and care. There is no better time than the present to respect this obligation, to make the decision of where your family burial place will be. In a gracious setting of large, matured trees, gracefully curving, paved roadways wind through thirty acres of meticulously groomed landscape. This beautiful setting is undeniably ideal as a place of eternal rest. BETH EL MEMORIAL PARK 28120 Six Mile Road Between Inkster and Middlebelt Roads r-- Washington (JTA) — An of- ficial of a California company that sells tear gas to Israel said that its use is "the most humane way of controlling crowds." She was responding to a de- mand from the American- Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) that the company stop shipping tear gas canisters to Israel. In a March 31 letter to TransTechnology President Dan McBride, Abdeen Jabara, president of the ADC, charged that the "lethal gas" is responsible for the deaths of 32 Palestinians. Yosef Gal, the spokesman at the Israeli Embassy, said that the ADC's death figures were "purely propaganda." He said that Israel's use of tear gas possibly caused one death in the territories since December, but even that was not certain.
