They also are involved in the new Jewish TV Program Project which premiered Jan. 27. The MSU Hillel building, a former sorority house, is a two-story structure with liv- ing quarters for nine Jewish students. Visitors like to study there, watch videos or television, talk and have. some coffee. Hillel foundations and counselorships in Michigan don't come cheaply. They take a lot of money to pay for staff, buildings, upkeep, programs and conferences. The money comes from na- tional B'nai B'rith Hillel, Metro Detroit B'nai B'rith . groups, donations, and from the Jewish Welfare Federation. Federation is giving the University of Michigan Hillel $119,000, Michigan State Hillel $63,000 and Wayne State with its counselorship at Oakland University, $61,000 for the 1987-1988 school year. Is this money well-spent? Shoshana Goldschlag thinks it is. Her three sons, David, Dan and Dale, are benefici- aries of the programs at Wayne State and the Univer- sity of Michigan. "Such places as Hillel are vital to our Jewish existence," said Mrs. Goldschlag. "It's very important that Jewish students have a place to ex- press their ideas, to identify themselves as Jewish and where they can feel at home in a Jewish environment. Each Hillel brings the best it can contribute. They are a necessity for our children. 0 .
