DANNY RASKIN
JUST LIKE THAT . . .
N
o surprise that over
100 people . . . rela-
tives and friends .. .
would attend Abe Saginaw's
recent 95th birthday celebra-
tion at Radisson Plaza .. .
But imagine the shocker
when everyone received a
"Special Edition Detroit Free
Press" . . . six-page, brochure:
size newspaper detailing
much of Abe's wonderful life
. . . including pictures from
yesterday and today.
The miniature paper was
written and put together by
his granddaughter, Lori
Saginaw, married to grandson
Paul Saginaw, one of the
bossmen at Zingerman's Deli
in Ann Arbor.
Another granddaughter,
Carol Frank, wed to Joachim
Frank, professor of physics at
Albany University in New
York, came a week before the
party, stayed with Lori and
Paul and helped out a bit.
Lori got all the information
needed plus pictures from
Abe's wife of 30 years, Molly
Saginaw.
The little newspaper details
his birthplace in Rovnner
(Russia at the time but later
a part of Poland) "on the se-
cond seder of Passover of
1893" . . . to "when Abe set
foot on Ellis Island on New
Year's Eve, 1914" . . . to in-
teresting facts and excerpts
by family members . . . to
Abe's days of wielding the
playtze broom at friend Sam
Boesky's Darbys Stanley
Steamer in Oak Park . . . to
his present day activities in-
cluding activeness as a
member of Crescent Shrine
Club . . . (Abe was one of the
members who recently took
over 1,300 handicapped
youngsters to the Shrine
Circus).
• Is Abe a proud man? .. .
Figure out how many seconds
in 95 years . . . and you'll
know how much.
CONGRATS . . .
to
Marlene and Mel Miller .. .
on their 26th anniversary..
GOT A QUARTER? .. .
It'll buy you something at the
Annual Dinner and Small
Change Auction by Sophie
and Harry Hoffman Chapter,
City of Hope, April 30, Tem-
ple Emanu-El on Ten Mile in
Oak Park . . . $12.50 donation
includes sitdown dinner and
the fun auction . . . No tickets

be gotten by April 20 . . . Call

Chairpersons are Irene Light
-
Grace and Steve Weiss and
six-year-old son Jordan, have
no place to call home
anymore . . . Their house on
Red Leaf Lane in Southfield
was recently completely gut-
ted by fire . . . forcing them
to move to a motel arranged
for by Southfield Human
Resources Dept. . . . Making
matters worse, Steve was
recently laid off . . .
Everything was burned,
clothing, furniture, etc. .. .
Help is desparately needed by
the Weiss famiy . . . Call
Southfield Human Resources,
354-4864, or former neighbor
Fran Breckels, 543-4376.
CONGRATS . . . to David
Rubin . . . who recently hit
birthday number 100 .. .
Dave still dresses im-
maculately, always neatly
decked out in a pressed suit or
sport jacket and slacks, with
matching shirt and tie .. .
One of his favorite sayings in
jest is, "What I have forgotten
is not worth knowing" . . . but
Dave's knowledge of past
events since the Spanish-
American War and during
the 20th Century, says
neighbor Mannie Fishman,
"is remarkable."
CONGRATS . . . to Lori
Wolok . . . on her "Sweet 16"
birthday.
WHILE THE WEATHER
was bad on our recent cruise,
it didn't seem to bother four
gals who played mah jong
while the ship rocked . . . Ber-
nice Kenser, • Micki Kline,
Irene Light and Gloria Sinai
of Columbus, Ohio had a two-
day maj game as Bernice put
her foresight forward in
bringing a set.
CONGRATS . . . to Rose
and Fred Stein . . . on their
40th anniversary . . . Con-
grats also to Rose again .. .
