Wallenberg
Evidence

Tel Aviv (JTA) — The Soviet
government has agreed to
review evidence indicating
that Swedish diplomat Raoul
Wallenberg is still alive, the
Jerusalem Post reported.
The Post based its story on
information provided by
Canadian attorney Irwin
Cotler, who recently returned
from the Soviet Union.
The Soviets have contended
for 40 years that Wallenberg
died in prison in 1947. Cotler
said he has collected 20
eyewitness accounts from peo-
ple who claim they saw him
alive as late as 1977, and the
Soviet authorities have pro-
mised to study his brief, the
Post quoted the attorney as
saying.
Cotler said that officials of
the Soviet Interior and
Foreign ministries with
mrhom he met had "spoken
warmly" of Wallenberg. They
praised his role in the "anti-
fascist struggle" and referred
to his fate as "an immense
tragedy."

Solidarity Rally
Is Canceled

New York (JTA) — For the
first time since it began 16
years ago, New York's
massive Solidarity Sunday
March for Soviet Jewry has
been canceled.
The Coalition to Free Soviet
Jews, which organizes the an-
nual rally, called the move a
"postponement."
Soviet Jewry activists
believe the effectiveness of
the annual New York demon-
stration, ironically, may have
been reduced on the after-
noon of Dec. 6, when an
estimated 200,000 demon-
strators for Soviet Jewry
packed the Ellipse near the
White House in Washington.

Hassan Meets
With Jews

Marrakech, Morocco (JTA)
— King Hassan II of Morocco
received representatives of
the Council of Jewish Com-
munities of Morocco at his
winter palace last month, a
day after ceremonies marking
the 27th anniversary of his
coronation.
The delegation, led by the
council's newly elected
secretary general, Serge Ber-
dugo, included Moroccan Jews
now living in Britain, France,
Spain, Canada and other
countries. Their reception
was described "warm and
friendly."
