Shaarey Zedek. The gala event will be the occasion for the premiere per- formance of "Not So Wild a Dream," a new musical work commissioned by the family of Clara and the late Peter Weisberg on behalf of Cong. Shaarey Zedek in honor of Israel's 40th anniversary. The concert will feature an augmented adult chorus of 40 voices, a 50 voice children's choir and a chamber or- chestra. In addition, Rabbi Ir- win Groner and Cantor Chaim Najman will appear as featured narrator and soloist. Avra Weiss, Robin Schakne, Leslye Mattler, Barbara Fischer and Risa Sears will appear in solo portions also. The arrangements commit- tee includes: Doris August, Debbie Balkin, Marcia Box- man, Sharon and Dr. Richard Brown, Helene Cherrin, Dr. Harold and Cindy Daitch, Dr. Eugene Gelzayd, Dr. Paul and Linda Gold, Marlene Krohner, Faye Krut, Evelyn and David Levine, Ilene Nemer, Sheldon Satovsky, Dorie Shwedel, Wilma Sugar, Mickey Tencer, Lori Weisberg, Eileen Wittenberg and Linda Zalla. The Shaarey Zedek Choir is directed by Eugene Zweig and the youth choir by Robin Beth Schakne. Dr. Morton Gold will conduct the concert performance. Following the concert on April 21 the Weisberg Con- cert will bring "Not So Wild a Dream" to New York where the newly commissioned oratorio will be performed at the Cantors Assembly con- vention at the Concord Hotel on May 4. Samuel Rosenbaum, the author of "Not So Wild a Dream," is writer, cantor and educator, having served Cong. Beth El of Rochester, N.Y., for more than 40 years and is currently the executive vice president of the Cantors Assembly of America. Cantor Rosenbaum has written the texts of a number of well-known oratorios; the music having been composed by such distinguished com- posers as Sholom Secunda, Abraham Ellstein, Charles Davidson and others. Among his award-winning works are: Kaddish, If Not Even Higher, Singing of Angels, The Trial of Anatoly Sharansky. Dr. Morton Gold, composer of the work and the son of the late Cantor Leon Gold, receiv- ed his musical education and advanced degrees at Boston College and Harvard Univer- sity. He has conducted at Tanglewood and appeared as guest conductor with the Boston Pops, where he con- ducted a premiere of his work. Among his compositions are: Haggadah, Songs Of Praise, Sayings of The Fathers, and Havdalah. Elie Wiesel has now endorsed the Center for the Study of the Child's Holocaust curriculum, "Life Unworthy of Life."
