books and software.
The fashion show raises
money for medical research,
scholarships and local pro-
jects. The Women of
Maimonides Medical Society
has donated $518,356 for
medical and osteopathic
scholarships for students in
Michigan and Israel since
1946.
After the noon luncheon,
the fashion show began with
two modern dancers on the
runway. A bevy of models
followed wearing black
unitards from The Studio in
Southfield and sparkling
jewelry from John Darakjian.
"Heavy gold link bracelets
and heavy gold chains are
back in style," says Wendy .
Flusty, merchandising direc-
tor at Darakjian. Flusty also
mentions the Hublot watch,
the hottest selling watch in
Switzerland.
Models wore dancewear and
casual clothes from The
Studio. "Our newest line of
clothing is by Peter Max,"
says owner Margo Katz. The
Max line has activewear in
bold, primary colors.
David R for men showed the
latest trends by American
and European designers.
Some of the highlighted
designers included Gianfran-
co Ferre, Gianni Versace, Bill
Robinson and Nancy Heller.
"Color is extremely impor-
tant this season," says owner
David Rovner. The palette at
David R ranges from soft
pastels to bold black and
white.
Touts Thnnis Shoppe show-
ed American and European
fashions. Imported tennis
fashions from Sergio Tac-
chini, Fila and Ellesse were
presented. In addition to the
popular red, white and blue
motif, fuchsia is the new
spring color.
The fashion show concluded
with evening clothes from
Cocktails in West Bloomfield.
Models wore lace and silk
gowns during a finale of
white smoke clouds. "It's like
a spring garden in our store,"
says owner Connie Bournias,
referring to the floral prints.
"We are showing flowers,
feminity and a Spanish look,"
adds Bournias. She also men-
tions the wide variety of skirt
lengths.
D.O.C. Optique in Bloom-
field Plaza accessorized the
outfits with the latest eye-
wear. "Just as women wear
evening clothes, there are
evening eyeglasses," says
Shelley Golden D.O.C. Opti-
que. According to Golden, the
newest look is vintage
eyewear with small round
frames.
Tamara Institute of Beaute
did the models' makeup,
while Mario Max Salon coiff-
ed the hair.
"I thought the afternoon
was very enjoyable," says Bar-
bara Dubb of West Bloom-
field. Marcia Auster of Farm-
ington Hills enjoyed the
clothes and looking at the
male models.
