the traditional ones as well as
the more unusual such as The

the United States, one of the
most familiar, and still wide-

gadah has been a booklet
distributed free by the
makers of Maxwell House
Coffee.
Since the first edition was
published in 1936, more than
20 million of these paperback
Haggadahs have been given
out in grocery stores and
supermarkets across Amer-
ica. Old copies become nostal-
gic family possessions, their
pages often stained with wine
and sprinkled with stale mat-
zot crumbs. They are remind-
ers of bygone seders, and of a
less affluent era.
