Workshops with Rabbi M. Robert Syme, Rabbi Harold Loss and Rabbi Paul Yedwab of Temple Israel will precede and follow the keynote address. The coordinator of the event is Sonia Syme, director of sisterhood's department of religion and education. Carol Cooper, past sisterhood presi- dent, is chairman of the event. She is being assisted by Sara Hoffman, sisterhood president; Adrienne Milin, immediate past president, and Judy Kroot. B'nai Moshe Names Officers Rabbi Daniel Syme The Institute on Judaism, sponsored by the Temple Israel Sisterhood, will be held 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. April 13. Representatives from 20 Oakland County school districts have been invited to attend the all-day event, which helps build undertand- ng between educators and their Jewish students. The program will begin with displays of ceremonial objects significant to Jewish holidays and holy days. Following a complimentary luncheon, Rabbi Daniel Syme will deliver the keynote ad- dress on "Jewish Values for Thachers of Every Faith." Rabbi Syme is vice president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, whose 800 congregations comprise the Reform move- ment in Canada and the United States. Rabbi Sy-rne was ordained in 1972 at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, and holds a Ph.D. degree in educa- tion from Columbia Universi- ty Thachers College. He has written or co-written 19 books on Jewish subjects. Rabbi Syme has served as national director of education for the UAHC and for the commis- Robert P. Roth was re- elected president of Cong. Hertz will speak at the ser- vice on "Keeping Our Memories Alive" Tickton has been music director and organist at the temple for 54 years. He has been a faculty member at Wayne State University for 47 years. He has lectured for the Detroit Symphony Or- chestra for five years and is the composer of liturgical music which has been per- formed in more than 40 temples in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Israel.
