New Courses
At Midrasha

The Midrasha-College of
Jewish Studies, a division of
United Hebrew Schools, will
offer several new courses and
special lecture series beginn-
ing in April.
The course offerings in-
clude: "Ideological Founda-
tions of Zionism" with Prof.
Zvi Gitelman of the Universi-
ty of Michigan. This course
will be held on April 11, 18,
25 and May 2 at 7:30 p.m.
"A Tour of Israeli Art
through Lecture and Gal-
lery" will be offered by Esther
Tarnoff-Cooper, a Detroit In-
stitute of Arts docent and lec-
turer, on April 20, 27, May 4
and 11 at 10:30 a.m.
Prof. Avraham Balaban of
the University of Michigan
will offer the course "Aharon
Applefeld: Approaches to the
Holocaust" at 7:30 p.m., and
"Dreams and Realizations
through Israeli Poetry — Ear-
ly Zionists to the Disen-
chanted" at 8:30 p.m. on
April 11, 18, 25 and May 2.
A "Beginner's Hebrew
Reading II" course taught by
Geri Levit, will meet on
Thursdays at 10 a.m. from
May 5 to June 30.
A lecture series, "Gentiles'
Cinematic Visions of Jews,"
with Prof. Joseph Gomez of
Wayne State University will
meet April 12, 19 and 26 at
9:30 a.m. This series is co-
sponsored by American
Women for Bar-Ilan
University.
Another lecture series is
"Film and the Holocaust"
with Dr. Sidney Bolkosky of
the University of Michigan,
Dearborn. This series will ex-
amine documentary and ar-
tistic approaches to the
Holocaust. It will be held
April 21, 28, May 5 and 12 at
7:30 p.m.
All courses and lecture
series will be held at the
United Hebrew Schools

ty will plan a series entitled
"Gentiles' Cinematic Visions
of Jews" in April
The series will feature Prof.
Joseph Gomez who is an
associate professor at Wayne
State University. Dr. Gomez
teaches courses in "Theory
and Criticism of Film," "Lit-
erature into Film" and
"Styles and Genres in Film."

He a contributing editor to
Literature and Film Quarter-
ly and a member of the
editorial board of Film
Criticism.
This series will examine
how American and European
non-Jewish filmmakers have
characterized Jews during the
20th Century. The three-part
program will be held on April
12, 19 and 26 at 9:30 a.m. A
continental breakfast will be
served at 9:30 a.m., and the
program will begin at 10 a.m.
The program is being held at
the United Hebrew Schools.
There is a fee.
The planning committee
from American Women for
Bar-Ilan University includes
Honorary President Frieda
Stollman; President Barbara
Stollman; Vice Presidents
Linda Lee, Nora Lessman,
Rosie Schlussel and Joanne
Zuroff; Immediate Past Presi-

Midrasha includes Chairman

Plotnick Named
To JWB Post

Morton Plotnick

Morton Plotnick, executive
director of the Jewish Com-
munity Center of Metropoli-
tan Detroit, was elected chair-
man of the JWB Metropolitan
Executives at a recent
meeting.
JWB is the central agency
for 275 Jewish Community
Centers, YM-YWHAs and
camps in the United States
and Canada.
The Metropolitan Ex-
ecutives group is comprised of
the 21 directors who ad-
minister Jewish centers in
major cities in North
America.
