his early designs he now
considered a "monstrosity" and
told her so. It seems she had
liked the original so much that
she had Boivin (of Paris) copy it
using diamonds instead of
glass.
Did the countess see any
humor in the situation?
"I think she thought it was
rather funny," recalls Lane, "but
I don't think she was thrilled to
madness because she had
spent quite a lot of money
doing that. Luckily, she has a
lot."
