are popular from sheaths to
shifts. For drama dresses are
strapless and bare.

JACKETS
Jackets are the newest fashion
accessory this spring. The latest
concept is matched and
unmatched outfits. Jackets run
the gambit — from fitted to short
to a longer cardigan style. Some
jackets are bolero style,
resembling a Spanish bullfighter.
Calvin Klein shows a black and
white bolero jacket, while Donna
Karan has a silk linen trench.

PANTS
The perfect choice for women
who do not want to wear short
skirts this season is pants.
Trousers are new and lively with
fuller legs and higher waists.
When the pants are paired with
the new shorter jackets, the
outfit is stylish. Designer David
Cameron shows bold red pants
with black stripes. Geoffrey
Beene shows a black crepe
jumpsuit with a cropped jacket
in bright yellow. Donna Karan
has a black lace pant.

TOPS
The cropped top is
everywhere. "Everyone thinks
you can't wear them, but where
they hit you, you can't see your
stomach," says Michele Duke, of
Brava. At Begadim there are
sporty cropped tops. "In
different fabrics, it looks nice,"
says Begadim's Lea Beurer.
Hersh Rothenberg ordered

top with varied lengths Lo please

SHORTS
To complement the new tops
are shorts. But shorts are
serious this season because
some are dressy and
sophisticated. Anne Klein shows
tweed shorts in her collection for
career dressing. Designer Nicole
Farhi at Diane M. in Birmingham
has maize silk shorts with a
matching jacket.

IN STYLE

There are many styles from
the walking shorts to tight
bicycle shorts and boxer styles.
The fabrics are as varied as the
styling — linen, cotton and silk.
From solids to prints, shorts are
in vogue.

EVENING CLOTHES
The influence of French
designer Christian Lacroix is
evident with a fairy tale
ambiance. Bright bold colors
and playful prints are stylish.
For drama and elegance, the
styles are bare and strapless.
"The style is short dresses,
low-cut and strapless," says
Samira Sadik of Elegant
Fashion. Sadik explains that she
carries many elegant gowns in a
wide price range. "I have
customers that like glitz and
some that like simple and
elegant fashions," adds Sadik.
According to Lea Beurer of

Williams sports a short rose
print pouf skirt and a cotton
ottoman bodice.

Begadim the silhouette for
evening is shorter and has a
flounce. Pastel colors are
popular "Lace adds a feminine
feeling," says Beurer.
At Linda Dresner the new
evening clothes often have small
sleeves. Some dresses have

fuller skirts. "But not a pouf,"
explains Dresner. Bright colors
and bare backs are also
popular. There's always a
dignified navy crepe de chine
classic dress by Lagerfeld.
Glitter and glamour is always
available at Sherri's. Owner Rita
Goldstone has a large selection
of strapless, cut dresses with
bows, ruffles and flounces.

ACCESSORIES
"Scaled down handbags with
cleaner shapes are stylish," says
Kathy Wonboy of Visible
Difference. Envelope bags are
popular also. At Sally's Designs,
moon bags and woven bags in
many styles are available.
Irina has an exclusive line of
contemporary jewelry by Yuri
Kolesov in geometric silver
shapes. "Ivory and sterling are
always big," says Sally Horvitz of
Sally's Designs.
Costume jewelry is again
important this season from large
dangling earrings to bold
bangles. "Fun fashion watches
are still hot, especially with soft
pastel leather bands," says Ceci
Orman of Ceci Orman Jewelry.
Orman also notes the
importance of hair accessories
adorned with faux jewels. E
