matches the surfing pattern of
the short," he adds.
Duane Geisz, owner of Trends,
in Applegate, is also showing
surfer-look jams for boys' casual
spring and summer clothes.
"The big brands this season will
be Ocean Pacific and Surf
Fetish. Jams will be very baggy
and the T-shirts will be shorter
and wider, almost a cropped top
that comes a few inches lower
than the waist."
Jeans are still the staple
wardrobe item. "Frosted and
whitewashed jeans in blue, black
and grey, with matching jean
jackets will be the uniform this
spring," says Shindler. "Jeans are
either super straight all the way
or baggy, pleated and pocketed
around the waist and hips and
then narrow around the lower
leg."
Ever the arbiter of teen fads,
Shindler explains how this
season's jeans will be worn.
"They'll roll and twist the lower
leg and tuck it under the cuff to
make the bottom leg look even
tighter"
Geisz offers several other
fashion forecasts. "Watch for
darker jeans. The acid wash will
slowly fade to a darker,
marbilized look. And suspenders
are definitely out."
Besides the popular jean
jacket, Shindler predicts the
leather "Top Gun" air force
jacket with silver or black air
force patches will be a very big
seller for children up to 11 years.
"Older children will also like the
oversized, baggy cotton jackets
with oversized pockets in
Caribbean blue, grey, red and
black.
For parties, both Geisz and
Shindler suggest oversized,
cotton sweaters with baggy,
pleated pants. Brody's is offering
the very high style and
expensive "Bugatchi" cotton
sweaters as an alternative to
sportcoats. The sweaters are
black and white with abstract
designs woven into the
lightweight fabric. "Wear a pink
