Another big Lane booster was
fashion publicist Eleanor
Lambert.
An important factor in his
success story was that Lane
had acquired many friends in
the New York area such as
Chessy Rayner and Mica
Ertegun and oodles of other
wealthy, socially prominent
young women who all sported
his wares while W
photographers stood close by.
One of those very first
customers who seemed to have
great fun with Lane's designs
was the late Duchess of

real stuff, like wearing fake
things as well because it makes
a woman feel more modern

Actually the Princess of Wales
(Diana) likes shopping at my
shops in London when she's
not wearing the family jewels.
Nice jewels, but a little bit hand-
me-down, aren't they? She can
have more fun with (my
jewelry)."
